WHY IS THIS BOOK A MUST READ?
I wrote a book entitled ‘Blueprint Centric Innovation & Creativity’ to simplify the explanation of what innovation is all about and how it is loaded with enormous potential to cause prosperity. In my view this book is a beginning of a pursuit to use innovation as a tool to take you to the top through the release of your creative potential. My quest to find what more can be done to help people to achieve success in their lifeitme and free people from poverty invariably led me to the subject of innovation. After writing this book I began to read the speeches of President Barack Obama of the United States of America to search what his insights on innovation are. I was amazed to find that Obama concurs with me on this subject. Here are a few examples of some of Obama’s insights in his own words. President Obama in Presenting National Medals of Science and National Medals of Technology and Innovation - on November 17, 2010 said, “The key to our success -- as it has always been -- will be to compete by developing new products, by generating new industries, by maintaining our role as the world’s engine of scientific discovery and technological innovation. It’s absolutely essential to our future.” On May 25, 2011 - President Obama in his address to United Kingdom Parliament in London, said, “There is no greater generator of wealth and innovation than a system of free enterprise that unleashes the full potential of individual men and women. That’s what led to the Industrial Revolution that began in the factories of Manchester. That is what led to the dawn of the Information Age that arose from the office parks of Silicon Valley ... In other words; we live in a global economy that is largely of our own making. And today, the competition for the best jobs and industries favors countries that are free-thinking and forward-looking; countries with the most creative and innovative and entrepreneurial citizens … lasting prosperity comes not from what a nation consumes, but from what it produces” Furthermore, during the "Education To Innovate" Campaign on November 23, 2009 President Obama said, “The key to meeting (these) challenges -- to improving our health and well-being, to harnessing clean energy, to protecting our security, and succeeding in the global economy -- will be reaffirming and strengthening America's role as the world's engine of scientific discovery and technological innovation. And that leadership tomorrow depends on how we educate our students today, especially in those fields that hold the promise of producing future innovations and innovators. And that's why education in math and science is so important. Everyone in this room understands how important science and math can be. And it goes beyond the facts in biology textbook or the questions on an algebra quiz. It's about the ability to understand our world: to harness and train that human capacity to solve problems and think critically, a set of skills that informs the decisions we make throughout our lives. So, yes, improving education in math and science is about producing engineers and researchers and scientists and innovators who are going to help transform our economy and our lives for the better. But it's also about something more. It's about expanding opportunity for all Americans in a world where an education is the key to success. It's about an informed citizenry in an era where many of the problems we face as a nation are, at root, scientific problems. And it's about the power of science to not only unlock new discoveries, but to unlock in the minds of our young people a sense of promise, a sense that with some hard work -- with effort -- they have the potential to achieve extraordinary things.” If innovation is so critical to change the material conditions of the peoples of South Africa, Africa and the world, our leaders like Obama needs to pay more attention to this subject. Democracy will only become meaningful to a critical mass of our countries and our nations around the globe when individuals are empowered to become active participants in innovation.
